Already on my way in, it got unbearably hot. I nearly missed the bus, and the crowded streets would likely delay our arrival. I felt tense and nervous. It was one of those days!
For the next few minutes, I allowed myself, just to notice people, houses, trees, signs, and clouds from my comfy seat. It took some time until I felt my mind slowing down, my gaze steady, and my inner being to enjoy the break. I love being on the road!
As we reached the end of town where the green meadows replaced the red brick buildings only divided by lines of bushes and the different tree nurseries our area is known for, I noticed my shoulders drop, my posture softening, and my breath deepen. What a relief: Finally, nature!
Slowly I opened my bag. I reached for my phone and listened to my e-book. Crossroads, villages, small forests, and large farmhouses passed by. My body enjoyed being shaken and massaged by the movements of the bus.
Listening to inspiring words about health, nature, and slow living I arrived at the next little city. I switched buses and promised myself, not to fall into a nervous, hectic mode again: I’ll arrive. No hurry. It’ll be ok!
Finally, I got off at the big city downtown: Tall buildings, loud noises, people everywhere. The occasional fresh breeze reminded me of the ocean close by. I loved being here, calm and peaceful on the inside.
How long would this state last? What would help me to not fall for the business, the fever around me? I kept my feet awake, my breathing slow, deep, and aware. My eyes enjoyed colors and shapes; my mind tried to stay rested.
There was no need to rush, no excitement to join in, nothing to get, and nothing to lose. There was just this step, this moment, and the appointment I was heading towards.
I thanked myself for getting up early, taking the bus before the big rush, and little curious breaks along the way. What easily could have become an exhausting city trip was a pleasurable adventure. And yes, this way it was possible to find calm in the middle of it all.
